Atlanta Hawk Al Horford Undergoes Successful Surgery On Left Pectoral Muscle


On January 17, Al Horford had successful surgery to repair his torn left pectoral muscle, according to Atlanta Hawks Executive Vice President/General Manager Rick Sund. Dr. Xavier Duralde of Peachtree Orthopaedic Clinic performed the surgery, assisted by Hawks team physicians Dr. Michael Bernot and Dr. Ashok Reddy. Horford suffered the injury midway through the first quarter at Indiana on January 11. He is expected to miss three-to-four months of action.

On August 15, Dr. Stephen M. McCollam had the honor of visiting the State Capitol on behalf of the Georgia Orthopaedic Society and speaking to both the Senate and the House, thanking them for working hard to protect the doctor/patient relationship.

Edward Loughlin, M.D., Remembered for Devotion, Friendship


Dr. Edward Loughlin is described as a brilliant surgeon and a dedicated family man. A founding member of Peachtree Orthopaedic Clinic, he dedicated much of his career serving as a champion for Grady Memorial Hospital. Passing away from a sudden stroke on March 19, Loughlin leaves behind a strong legacy of compassion and commitment to the field of medicine. Haitian Earthquake Survivor Hopes to Help Others Back Home


Guerline Charles was sitting in Spanish class when the walls shook violently, raining huge chunks of concrete and metal down on her and her classmates. Charles was trapped for two days in the ruins of a building in a Port-au-Prince suburb before she was pulled from the rubble by bystanders.

New POC President


The Partners of Peachtree Orthpaedic Clinic recently held the election for President of the group. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Stephen McCollam has taken over the leadership position. Dr. McCollam joined POC in 1988 and will bring tremendous leadership qualities to his new role. He is the past president of the Georgia Orthopaedic Society and also the past President of the Georgia Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Speaking Engagements


Dr. Xavier Duralde will be speaking at the Current Concepts in Sports Medicine Course in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Course will be held April 30th through May 1st. This annual course is geared to sports care professionals. Dr. Duralde speaks Nationally and Internationally on shoulder and elbow injuries. He is the President of the Georgia Shoulder and Elbow Society.

We have performed an extensive review of our practice and concluded that some of our physicians will be opting out of Medicare. Our analysis clearly demonstrated that the unsustainable situation created by the Centers Medicare and Medicare Services (CMS) administrative requirements, rules, regulations and declining reimbursement created the need for us to move in this direction.
