Letha Y. Griffin, MD

Letha Y. Griffin, MD, joined Peachtree Orthopaedic Clinic in 1981. She was recently featured in a video on CNN about Baby Boomers who are getting fit. Click Here to view the video on the CNN website.

Education and Training


Dr. Griffin earned her BS (1966, summa cum laude), MSC (1967, summa cum laude), PhD (1969, summa cum laude) and MD (1973, summa cum laude) from Ohio State University. She did her orthopaedic residency at the University of Michigan Hospital. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Griffin has served as Instructor in the Department of Surgery, Assistant Team Physician and member of the Sports Medicine Clinic at the University of Michigan, and also Head of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wayne County Hospital.

While she was at the University of Washington in Seattle, she served as Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Co-Team Orthopaedist and a member of the Sports Medicine Clinic.

She served as Clinical Instructor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Emory University School of Medicine from 1984 to 1993.

Currently, Dr. Griffin is a member of the Athletic Board of Georgia State University. She is also Team Orthopaedist to the Georgia State University athletes and is on the panel of orthopaedic physicians for the Atlanta Ballet.


Professional Affiliations


Dr. Griffin has served as President of the Atlanta Orthopaedic Society. She is a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Board of Directors of the American College of Sports Medicine, and the Board of Certification of the National Athletic Trainers Association. She is presently chairman of the publications committee of the AAOS and on the Board of Piedmont Hospital. Dr. Griffin participated in the Platelet Rich Plasma Task Force Conference at the AAOS annual meeting in San Diego in 2011. She also staffed the Diversity Booth for the AAOS.

Dr. Griffin's deep interest in Sports Medicine is evidenced by her many articles, reviews, and book chapters and books on pertinent topics. She served as Editor-in-Chief of a recently published textbook entitled "Essentials of Musculoskeletal Care". She has also been honored by Atlanta magazine as one of their recommended orthopaedic surgeons.
